Becki Newton hasn’t really had a big sitcom role since her role as Amanda on ABC’s “Ugly Betty,” which is a shame–she’s a really good character actress and eventually became one of the best things about “Ugly Betty.” I thought “Love Bites” would be the next big project for her, but, alas, it got cancelled.

Entertainment Weekly has reported that Newton will star in the Fox pilot for “The Goodwin Games,” a show created by the team behind “How I Met Your Mother.” The pitch for the show, according to Entertainment Weekly, is, ‘High-concept family comedy about a father who leaves his fortune to his three children only if they agree to his terms.” Newton will play one of the lead roles in the pilot. “HIMYM”‘s Craig Thomas, Chris Harris and Carter Bays will write and executive produce.

Also, Newton will start having a recurring role on “HIMYM” as the latest love interest for Barney, played by Neil Patrick Harris.
