Cirque du Soleil has been invited to present an exclusive performance for the 84th Academy Awards by the ceremony’s telecast producers, Brian Grazer and Don Mischer. The unique, one-time-only performance will feature the largest Cirque cast ever assembled for a single event. More than 50 international performers from Cirque du Soleil productions around the world will appear in the Oscar event.

The performance will be accompanied by music created by Danny Elfman, the Academy Award-nominated composer who scored the music for Cirque du Soleil’s IRIS: A Journey through the World of Cinema. The event is the second time Cirque du Soleil has performed during the Academy Awards telecast. The troupe first appeared at the 74th Academy Awards, which sparked talks of creating a permanent show for the Kodak Theatre, and ultimately resulted in the creation of IRIS.

The 84th Academy Awards, which will honor film achievements from 2011, will air live on Sunday, February 26, 2012, from the Kodak Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center. It will be televised live on ABC at 8:30 pm EST/5:30 pm PST, and will be broadcast in more than 225 countries worldwide. Confirmed presenters include Halle Berry, Bradley Cooper, Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Tom Hanks, Angelina Jolie, Milla Jovovich, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Rock, Emma Stone and the cast of ‘Bridesmaids.’
