MTV Hollywood Crush has had the chance to sit down with Woody Harrelson to talk about his character Haymitch Abernathy. More importantly, they talked about the most important part of Haymitch’s characterization–his drinking.

Harrelson said that he wanted to make sure he gave the right amount of inebriation to the role. “I was a little bit worried about looking kind of phony,” he said. “Now some method actors might go drunk on-screen,” he said. “I tried it one time when I was doing ‘Indecent Proposal.’ I had this scene and I was supposed to be really drunk…and I got smashed! Because I was supposed to be, so I rationalized it. But it wasn’t a pleasant experience.”

So, while Harrelson wasn’t actually drunk while portraying Haymitch, we’ll still be able to see a drunk Haymitch on screen.
