“The Dark Knight Rises” is already being looked at as one of the big movies for next year’s Oscars, according to Tulsa World.

According to the site, the film could be up against films like “Argo,” “The Great Gatsby,” “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” and others. The site astutely brings up the fact that the horrific snub “The Dark Knight” received in 2008 forced the Academy to extend their field to more than five nominees. Because of this–and the fact that the Academy is just in love with giving awards for people they snubbed before–“The Dark Knight Rises” just might be nominated for the Best Picture Oscar.

The film winning is a completely different question. I would hope it makes history and snaps a win for Christopher Nolan and company. It would be amazing to see a “thinking man’s action film”, as it were, win the Academy Awards. Perhaps, it would also mean that the Academy would have woken up to the 21st century and recognize that there can be great drama in any genre of film, not just the “drama” category.
