Anchor Bay Films has picked up the North American rights to the upcoming remake ‘Silent Night,’ starring Malcolm McDowell. The film, which will be directed by ‘The Aggression Scale’ helmer Steven C. Miller, will be released theatrically worldwide this holiday season.

McDowell has been cast as Sheriff Cooper, a small-town hero ready for big-time action, in ‘Silent Night.’ The film tells the story of a local police department’s search for the killer Santa Claus that is terrorizing their remote Midwestern town on Christmas Eve. ‘Silent Night’ is a re-telling of the controversial 1984 movie ‘Silent Night, Deadly Night.’

‘Silent Night,’ which was written by Jayson Rothwell and is being produced by Richard Saperstein, Brian Witten, Shara Kay and Thomas M. Kastelz, is currently in pre-production. Principal production i set to begin later this month. The movie is the first project under the recently funded Ember Productions banner, which focuses on commercial, theatrically-driven genre films.
