James Cameron’s “Titanic” was a huge box-office hit the first time around, but it would seem that it’s even bigger the second time around. With critics, anyway.

The film, which is now “Titanic (in 3D) seems to have gained the approval of the critics once more through the 3D elements and nostalgia. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a huge 87% with critics. However, two interesting things are going on with this film.

One, the critical consensus on the Rotten Tomatoes page is weird. To quote the page, “A mostly unqualified triumph for Cameron, who offers a dizzying blend of spectacular visuals and old-fashioned melodrama.” I’m not sure what “unqualified” means in this otherwise glowing review. It almost sounds like some critics are begrudgingly giving this movie a pass.

Secondly, the audience, a group that I expected to really love this film and come out in droves, has only garnered a 68%. Huh? What’s going on here?

Well, this is where you, the avid movie watchers of the ShockYa Nation, come in. What did you think about the film? Did you think it was better the second time, or could you have done without it? Give your opinions in the comments section below.

  1. By “unqualified,” they simply mean “absolute” or “without reservations,” and are therefore contributing to the glowing nature of the summary, not contradicting it by calling it an “unqualified triumph.”
