“Once Upon a Time” comes back to ABC this Sunday at 8/7c, and all of the show’s fans will welcome it back with open arms. But what makes the show so great? Well, perhaps after reading ShockYa’s list of the top 10 reasons to love “Once Upon a Time,” you’ll see what has make the show so popular.

.The Evil Queen: Lana Parrilla’s portrayal of Regina/The Evil Queen is spectacular. She is the villain that you love to hate, and she goes all the way when she’s trying to achieve her goal, which includes killing those that she is close to.

.Fairytale characters in the real world: The way the fairytale characters have been interwoven into real life is very unique. Storybrooke serves as the middle ground between the fairytale world and the real world, and the characters don’t remember their former lives. This provides for a uniquely realistic take on the characters of fairytales.

.The story: One of the highlights of the hit ABC show “LOST” was the intriguing writing, and “Once Upon a Time”‘s writing is no different. The story of “Once Upon a Time” is written by “LOST” scribes Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, and the two create a web of fascinating characters and storylines that will keep fans coming back for more.

.Commitment: One admirable quality of the show is the level of commitment to the idea of the fairytale world coming to ours. There aren’t any kitchy lines or gags made at the characters’ expense. The audience takes the fairytale world seriously because (as Rumpelstiltskin [Robert Carlyle] would say)everything does come at a price and there are serious consequences for every action the fairytale characters take.

.Love Conquers All: Everyone likes the idea of love trumping all other evils, and this show has it with Mary Margaret/Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and David/Prince Charming (Josh Dallas). Even though the show has them going in opposite directions right now, it’s comforting to know that despite the ups and downs, these two will end up together.

.Henry: The role of Henry is a complex one for a child actor to have. Not only is he the son of Regina in Storybrooke, but he’s also the father of The Evil Queen in the fairytale world. As to how Henry has come back as Regina’s son is a mystery that remains to be solved, but his presence shows that all is not right. Also, big ups to Jared Gilmore for his portrayal of the character.

.Community: With every cult-following show, you get a sense of community, and the following behind “Once Upon a Time” is no different. It’s fun to be able to theorize and debate with the other fans of this series, as everyone is trying to put two and two together as the series goes along.

.Ingenuity: One could argue that the idea of fairytale characters in the real world has been done before, but “Once Upon A Time” seems to do it with just the right amount of verve that makes everything about it seem fresh, new and bold. Also, the characters, particularly Regina, make some very bold choices, which brings the stakes to a higher level.

.The consequences of actions: The big theme of this show is the consequence an action has. Every thing a character does in this story is accounted for and paid back in some form or fashion. While some of those consequences stem as a direct result of making a deal with Rumpelstiltskin, some other consequences deal with the internal states of the characters. No one goes unrewarded or unpunished.

.The ultimate end: What will be the best season out of all them is sure to be the finale season. A show like this is set up to have a beginning, middle and an end, and the end is being set up to be as satisfying as the journey. The only bad thing about getting to the end is that there won’t be anymore episodes to watch.
