The casting list for Robert Rodriguez’ “Machete Kills” is being released slowly but surely. The newest member of the film cast could either be seen as genius casting or stunt casting–you make the call.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Charlie Sheen is in negotiations to play the President of the United States in the sequel. The news originally broke over Twitter, with Rodriguez tweeting, “I just cast Charlie Sheen in #machetekills as the President of the United States! Who better? More soon…” As validation, Sheen retweeted the message and a representative for Sheen confirmed the casting news to The Hollywood Reporter.

Charlie Sheen is having a big moment right now post-“Two and a Half Men”; he’s currently starring in the new FX sitcom “Anger Management,” and now is set to get a Tarantino-esque movie career makeover from Rodriguez. Will it work? Well, I say how can it hurt? It seems Sheen’s career is on an uptick anyway, and starring in this film will only send it higher.

Also, the first images from “Machete Kills” has been released (thanks to Rodriguez and Jessica Alba’s Twitter pages). A lot of them feature an all-female mariachi band, who was on set to celebrate Rodriguez’s birthday (according to Alba’s tweet). Check them out below the post.

“Machete Kills” also stars Danny Trejo, Amber Heard, Michelle Rodriguez, Mel Gibson and SofĂa Vergara. The film will be released in 2013.
