Jay Baruchel (“She’s Out of My League,” “How To Train Your Dragon”) is nearing placement on the “RoboCop” cast list, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film, scheduled for release in 2013, is a remake of the 1987 classic (starring Arnold Schwarzenegger) about a physically and mentally wounded cop who comes back to the force as a cyborg. According to IMDB, other announced cast members include Gary Oldman (“The Dark Knight Rises,” “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban”), Samuel L. Jackson (“The Avengers,” “Iron Man 2”), Joel Kinnaman (“Safe House,” “Easy Money”)as the title hero, Abbie Cornish (“Limitless,” “Sucker Punch”), Hugh Laurie (“House M.D.,” “Sense and Sensibility”), and Jackie Earle Haley (“Watchmen,” “Shutter Island”).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Baruchel will possibly portray the head of marketing for Omnicorp, the company responsible for building the cyborg cop. The film will be directed by Jose Padilha (“Elite Squad: The Enemy Within,” “Elite Squad”), and the screenplay is written by Nick Schenk (“Gran Torino”), James Vanderbilt (“The Amazing Spiderman,” “Zodiac”), and Joshua Zetumer.

This role for Baruchel is on the heels of his role in “Goon” (which he also co-wrote). Baruchel is set to appear in “The End of the World” in 2013 and “How to Train Your Dragon 2” in 2014.
