‘Off the Map’ star Caroline Dhavernas is returning to television in NBC’s early 2013 drama series ‘Hannibal’ as Dr. Alana Bloom, Comic Book Movie is reporting. The character is known in the previous books and films about one of fiction’s greatest serial killers, Hannibal Lector, as Dr. Alan Bloom.

Besides Dhavernas, such actors as Mads Mikkelsen, Hugh Dancy and Laurence Fishburne, who will play the title character, FBI profiler Will Graham and Jack Crawford, respectfully, will be seen in ‘Hannibal.’ The pilot will be directed by David Slade, and the series will be focused on Thomas Harris’ novel ‘Red Dragon.’ The first few seasons will take place before the events of the book, and season four is scheduled to tell the events of the novel.

‘Hannibal’ will follow Will, a gifted criminal profiler who helps the FBI search for a serial killer. He is able to empathize with anyone, even psychopaths, due to his unique way of thinking. But the latest serial killer Will is tracking is too twisted, even for him, leading him to seek help from Hannibal.

The title serial killer, whose cannibalistic ways are only known to the audience, is one of the premier psychiatric minds in the country. He forms a brilliant partnership with Will to track the killer.
