The official release dates for the 3D theatrical launches of ‘Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones’ and ‘Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith’ have been announced by Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox. It was relayed at the closing ceremony for Star Wars Celebration VI, the franchise’s massive fan event, that the 3D films will be released back-to-back. ‘Episode II’ will hit theaters on September 20, 2013 and ‘Episode III’ will be released on October 11, 2013.

The ‘Star Wars’ films are being re-released in 3D because the series has been described as being perfectly suited for the 3D theatrical experience. The movies show captivating locations, including the clone hatcheries of Kamino and the lava planet of Mustafar, as well as spectacular action sequences, including Yoda’s debut as a lightsaber duelist.

The ‘Star Wars’ 3D conversion was supervised by Industrial Light & Magic and undertaken by global visual entertainment services company Prime Focus. The company used its proprietary View-D process to transform ‘Episode II’ and ‘Episode III’ into 3D with respect for the source material. Prime Focus also paid attention to the technological consideration and artistic intentions of the conversion.
