Contemporary action thriller “Jack Ryan” started principal photography Tuesday, states Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions. The film is directed Academy Award-nominated director Kenneth Branagh and stars Chris Pine, Academy Award-nominated Keira Knightley and Academy Award-nominated Kevin Costner.

“Jack Ryan” is filming in New York, Moscow and London and is slated for theatrical release on December 25, 2013.

The film is based on the Jack Ryan character created by bestselling author Tom Clancy, and the film is a contemporary action thriller set in the present day. The original story, written by David Koepp (“Angels and Demons,” “War of the Worlds”), follows a young Jack as he uncovers a financial terrorist plot.

Pine will play the title character and Knightley plays his fiancé Cathy Muller. Costner will play Ryan’s CIA handler Harper and Andersson will play security agent Dmitri Lemkov. Along with directing, Branagh will also star Russian oligarch Viktor Cherevin. CinemaBlend has also announce that Nonso Anozie has been added to the cast; it’s not clear what role Anozie will have in the film. Below is a first look at the film featuring Branagh in character.
