The long awaited adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel, “The Great Gatsby,” will be released on May 10, 2013, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film is directed by Baz Luhrmann, and will be shown in 3D.

The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher and Jason Clarke. “Great Gatsby” was originally scheduled to open on Christmas Day 2012, but the release date was pushed back to allow more time for post production.

Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman had this to say about the move of release date:

“Audiences have been looking forward to Baz Luhrmann’s film adaptation of one of the most beloved books of all time, and we felt this beautifully extravagant and dramatic film would be a perfect way for us to kick off the summer slate,”

Also on hand at the release date announcement was Warner Bros. president of international distribution Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Lurhmann co-wrote the adapted script with frequent collaborator Craig Pearce. He also is a producer alongside Catherine Martin, Lucy Fisher, Douglas Wick and Catherine Knapman.

So, get ready for next year’s tale of drama, passion, and intrigue, all set in the roaring twenties.
