The demon is back! While “Paranormal Activity 4” likely won’t continue the trend and trump the third film’s opening number, it could match the second film with a $40 million opening. As for the week’s other wide release, with dismal reviews, all “Alex Cross” really has to go on is Tyler Perry’s name. Still, the film looks to only earn as much as Perry’s lowest grossing film, “Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds,” with about $15 million.

Second weeker “Taken 2” may have trumped last weekend’s new release, “Argo,” but it looks like “Taken 2” will take a hefty enough hit to fall below “Argo” this time around. Should “Taken 2” drop 50% and “Argo” just 35%, the former will post just over $10 million while the latter takes $12 million. Should “Hotel Transylvania” continue to enjoy its successful run – and with the impending holiday it likely will – it might have a shot at sneaking in between “Taken 2” and “Argo,” securing the fourth spot. Should it drop 35% again, it’ll earn another $11 million, boosting its grand domestic total to somewhere around $120 million.

Even with “Paranormal Activity 4” entering the competition, Halloween should make room for more than one scary movie at the box office, letting “Sinister” hold onto 60% of its opening profits for a $10.5 million weekend two total, possibly even pushing “Taken 2” further down the charts. On the other hand, it isn’t looking good for “Here Comes the Boom.” After a lackluster $11.8 million start, Kevin James’ latest could take a 50% hit for a mere $6 million second weekend out.

“Pitch Perfect” has a good shot at retaining a solid amount of its $9.3 million weekend three haul, but not enough to steal that seventh spot from “Here Comes the Boom.” Should “Pitch Perfect” fall 40%, it’ll make $5.5 and lock the #8 spot. “Frankenweenie” should come in just behind with a 45% loss and weekend three total of $4 million while “Looper” will round out the top ten with $3.5 million.
