You might have thought against hope that Hollywood would create an original horror film for once. Welp, that dream can go out of the window, at least for now. Come Jan. 2, 2015, Dimension Films will release “Amityville.” Yes, another remake of “The Amityville Horror.”

According to ComingSoon, the film, originally titled “The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes,” is written by Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands. The film will go through the time and events of the original “Amityville Horror” book and film through found footage from 1976. A television news intern who is looking to make her name by breaking the case on the most storied haunted house ever, leads team of reporters, paranormal researchers and clergymen to get to the root of the hauntings.

Does this sound particularly new? Nope. How exactly will they make it sound and look fresh and not like a remake? I don’t really know. The one thing that does make it stand out is that, according to ComingSoon, it’ll be the first major release of 2015. Horror in January isn’t particularly new, but at the very first of the year, it seems like a lot to take in right after celebrating the new year.

What do you think about this film? Are you looking forward to a new film about an old film? Give your opinions about “Amityvlle” in the comments section below.
