The trailer for “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” has been released with a lot of fans restating their hatred for the turtles’ redesigns. I think I might be one of the only people who aren’t really bothered by the redesign; I don’t think I’m a big enough “Turtles” fan. But, I do have to say that a superfan’s edit of the trailer is making me wonder whether it might have been better to just go with the original designs for the film.
According to Giant Freakin Robot, an anonymous fan has taken it upon him or herself to edit screenshots from the trailer in Photoshop. The fan images quickly surfaced on Reddit and has made its way around the internet. The turtles are given two different looks, a “Classic” look, i.e. a look that is basically the same as the original comic book and cartoon and the “improved fan version,” which is a mix of the new look and the classic.
Looking at both the classic and improved fan versions, I have to say that both of them are a lot more palatable than the revamped movie version. We’re all used to the turtles not having noses and looking, well, a bit more congenial and likable than these new turtles.
