The “Terminator” reboot, “Terminator: Genesis,” is well under way, either to the chagrin or amazement of hardcore “Terminator” fans. Paramount Pictures and Skydance Production wants to make you happy that there’s a reboot, though–the two companies jointly announced that “Doctor Who” star and the love of fangirls and fanboys everywhere, Matt Smith, has joined the reboot’s cast.

Smith will play a brand new character. This character will have a “strong connection” to John Connor, played by Jason Clarke. Smith will be joining an already well-rounded cast, including Clarke (as already mentioned), Emilia Clarke (no relation), Jai Courtney, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi and Byung-hun Lee.

As stated above, Smith is best known for being The Doctor in “Doctor Who,” but you might also know Smith from “Christopher and His Kind,” “Moses Jones,” and “The Street.” Smith will be in the upcoming film “Lost River,” starring Christina Hendricks, Saoirse Ronan and Eva Mendes and written and directed by Ryan Gosling.

The film is directed by Alan Taylor, with a screenplay by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier. The producers include David Ellison and Dana Goldberg of Skydance Productions; Skydance’s Paul Schwake, Annapurna Pictures’ Megan Ellison, Kalogridis and Lussier are executive producers.

Paramount will distribute “Terminator: Genesis” July 1, 2015. What do you think about Smith joining this film? Talk about it in the comments section below!
