Out of all of the possible movie reboots and entertainment franchises, I don’t think anyone expected Mighty Morphin Power Rangers to be the franchise to come back to the forefront of Hollywood. But the Power Rangers, the popular show set around high-school kids-turned-superheroes that found a foothold in America in the early ’90s, will soon be back in the theaters for modern audiences.

Why did I say “be back”? Because the Power Rangers have been in movies before. Many fans of the ’90s iteration of the superhero show remember when they could buy VHS tapes featuring their favorite characters fighting the bad guys. So what can old and new fans expect to see when the Power Rangers grace their screens again? Just more of the characters they love. “With an extensive and extremely devoted worldwide fan base as well as a deep and detailed mythology, the Power Rangers are primed for the big screen,” stated Saban Brands and Lionsgate. The companies also announced that the film “will re-envision the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.”

A director and screenwriter haven’t been announced, stated The Los Angeles Times, so just what kind of villain the Power Rangers will be fighting remains to be seen.
