Ernie Hudson has probably made enemies of some of the female “Ghostbusters” fans out there. Why? Because he recently said in an interview that he thinks an all-female “Ghostbusters” film is a bad idea.

Hudson recently had an interview with The Telegraph, saying that he didn’t think the fans would dislike this new version of the classic comedy.

“I heard it was going to be a total reboot, and that it would have nothing to do with the other two movies,” he said. “If it has nothing to do with the other two movies, and it’s all female, then why are you calling it Ghostbusters?”

“I love females,” he went on to say. “I hope that if they go that way at least they’ll be funny, and if they’re not funny at least hopefully it’ll be sexy. I love the idea of including women, I think that’s great. But all-female I think would be a bad idea. I don’t think the fans want to see that.”

That’s a lot to take in. But Hudson also states how he wished he was in the film. “Maybe it will come out and be the most amazing thing, but in my opinion I think it would be wrong to do another movie that didn’t include the guys. And that didn’t include me!”

Hudson’s comments about the all-female “Ghostbusters” remake are quite extraordinary in the most patriarchal way possible. How come women have to be limited to just being “funny” or “sexy”? Is that all that’s expected of women in films? And it’s surprising Hudson is complaining about the movie so much, considering his character Winston was cut from the majority of the film.
