The comic book movie wars have certainly been taken up to 11. For most of the war between Marvel and DC, Marvel had been besting DC with their “Avengers” movie series and various solo superhero films, like “Iron Man,” “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Captain America.”

But DC began showing DC what its made of with “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” and the announcements of “Wonder Woman” “The Flash” and “Aquaman” films, with Wonder Woman played by Gal Gadot, The Flash played by Ezra Miller and Aquaman played by Jason Momoa. There’s also the slate of “Justice League” films we can expect in the coming years.

So how did Marvel answer DC’s firing shots? With a brand new slate of films. Marvel recently held their Phase 3 event at Hollywood’s El Capitan Theatre and gave fans the news they’ve been waiting for.

Of course, we’re getting the films we had heard rumblings about, like “Captain America: Civil War” (May 6, 2016) “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” (May 5, 2017) and “Doctor Strange” (Nov. 4, 2016, with Benedict Cumberbatch recently hired for the titular role). But we’re also getting “Thor: Ragnarok” (July 28, 2017), “Avengers: Infinity War” (Parts I and II coming out May 2018 and May 2019, respectfully) as well as some films that have come as complete surprises.

The first surprise is that Chadwick Boseman has been cast as the Black Panther for the titular film (Nov. 3, 2017). Fans have practically begged for this film and thankfully, it’s finally getting made with Boseman as the first lead of color for a Marvel film. The second is that “Captain Marvel” (July 6, 2018) will feature an actress playing Carol Danvers, meaning that Marvel is finally giving a superheroine her own film. The third is the promiise of a film that might have been off of everyone’s radar, “Inhumans” (Nov. 2, 2018). This film will feature tons of aliens and ridiculous powers. In other words, this film seems like it’ll be a lot of fun.
