“Extant,” starring Halle Berry, brought a futuristic view of America to life on CBS, and now the sci-fi thriller’s first season is preparing for its DVD and Blu-ray release Dec. 16 from CBS Home Entertainment.

The show, which has been hailed as “smart and engrossing” by the Associated Press, comes from executive producer Steven Spielberg and tells the story about an astronaut who has to reconnect with her family after her year in space. But it’s the events she’s lived through while in space that will change the trajectory of the world’s future forever.

“Extant: The First Season” will consist of four discs containing every episode in the premiere season. Blu-ray lovers will see the season in exquisite clarity at 1080p high definition with English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio; folks who buy the DVD will be able to view the season in 16×9 Full Frame with Digital English Stereo Surround. include over 90 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage and featurettes on the making of the first season, such as “The Story of Extant” and “The Mythology of Extant,” which focus on the show’s concept and the characters, items and phrases that make up the world in the series. Directors, writers and other members of the behind-the-scenes crew will also provide viewers with more about the world of “Extant” in “Extant: Filming Season One.” The cast, including Berry, Goran Visnjic, Hiroyuki Sanada, Pierce Gagnon, Michael O’Neill, Grace Gummer and Camryn Manheim will also talk about their characters and time filming the season in the featurette “Extant: The Cast.”

“Extant: The First Season” will be available for $76.99 and $64.99 (Blu-ray and DVD); if you’re in Canada, the release will be priced at $86.99 and $68.99 (Blu-ray and DVD).
