Sofia Vergara and Reese Witherspoon are giving the road trip subgenre a try with “Hot Pursuit,” coming to theaters May 8. The film, directed by Anne Fletcher and written by David Feeney, John Quaintance, Dana Fox and Katherine Silberman, puts a different twist on the subgenre by including a decent amount of danger and shootouts.

Witherspoon plays a cop who is tasked with protecting Vergara’s character, the widow of a drug boss. Both of them have to make it through Texas while keeping their lives intact as they escape from gunmen and cops that have turned to the dark side. Along with Witherspoon and Vergara, the film stars John Carroll Lynch and Rob Kazinsky. Witherspoon also acts as a producer along with Dana Fox and Bruna Papandrea. Vergara is an executive producer along with Jeff Waxman and Luis Balaguer.

Two trailers have been released so far for this Warner Bros. Pictures/New Line Cinema/MGM film, if you haven’t taken a look at the first one, it’s below the post. The second trailer is also embedded below and, if you need even more of Vergara and Witherspoon, some film stills are also right here. What do you think about the film?
