Descartes a Kant, one of Mexico’s up-and-coming avant-garde bands, is set to bring their unique punk-metal sound to the United States. Guadalajara’s most imaginative group is set to release their American debut album, ‘Victims of Love Propaganda.’ The record will be distributed on May 12, via the Los Angeles-based independent label, Cleopatra Records.
Descartes a Kant has also released the video for its latest song, ‘Motion Picture Dream Boy.’ The video was directed by film helmer, makeup effects artist and longtime friend of the band, Gamaliel de Santiago Ruvalcaba.
In addition to releasing the video for ‘Motion Picture Dream Boy,’ the band has also posted an intro clip. In the video, Descartes a Kant describes their sound, style and record. The album’s producer, Steve Albini, also chimes in on the group’s music in the intro video.
‘Victims of Love Propaganda,’ which is the band’s third studio album, was recorded and produced in Chicago by Albini. In regards to working with the legendary producer, and releasing the album on Cleopatra Records, the band stated, “We are thrilled to be a, both because it’s our first release outside of Mexico and they’ve been incredibly supportive. Also, we still can’t believe we got to record this with Steve Albini, who is a hero of ours.”
The concept album questions all aspects of modern love through a series of dark tales of break-ups and grief. The story that’s chronicled on ‘Victims of Love Propaganda’ is represented by two characters who personify the face of a modern love relationship. The narrative charts the couple’s mutable love as it transitions from enchantment, fascination and intensity to a state of indifference, disconnection and dissolution throughout the ten-song cycle.
Descartes a Kant is set to embark on a world tour in support of ‘Victims of Love Propaganda.’ The tour will feature a new stage show and new costume designs.
