Robert Redford is leading the newest radical revolution in science, as he has uncovered definitive proof of an afterlife. His protagonist in the new mystery drama, ‘The Discovery,’ is trying to accept the challenges that are brought on by the new scientific breakthrough, which can be seen in new stills Netflix has released from the film.

The streaming service is set to debut the sci-fi movie today worldwide. ‘The Discovery’ had its World Premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, before making its debut on the streaming service.

In addition to Redford, ‘The Discovery’ also stars Rooney Mara, Jason Segel, Jesse Plemons and Riley Keough. The romance film was directed by Charlie McDowell, who also co-wrote the script with Justin Lader.

Netflix has released the following synopsis for ‘The Discovery’:

In the near future, the world is off-balance. People have gained a specific knowledge, and death has lost meaning, due to a breakthrough scientific discovery by Dr. Thomas Harbor (Robert Redford): There is now definitive proof of an afterlife. While countless people have chosen suicide in order to “re-set” their existence, others go on, trying to decide what it all means. Among them is Dr. Harbor’s son Will (Jason Segel), who has arrived at his father’s isolated compound with a mysterious young woman named Isla (Rooney Mara). There, they discover the strange acolytes who help Dr. Harbor with his experiments. They are all looking to Dr. Harbor for meaning. Can Will and Isla find peace – in this place, or on the other side?
