Marc Silvestri, best known in comics as a renowned artist on the “X-Men” titles, one of the cofounders of Image Comics, Top Cow CEO and executive producer of the big-screen adaptation of “Wanted”, is taking on the executive producer role again for an upcoming comic book adaptation.

Variety and MTV Splashpage are reporting that he has found a director for “Magdalena”, a big-screen adaptation of the long-running Top Cow character that will star Jenna Dewan and Luke Goss. RyĆ»hei Kitamura (“Midnight Meat Train”) will be directing.

Writer Holly Brix (“The Butterfly Effect 3: Revelations”) and producers Gale Anne Hurd (“Terminator 2”) Platinum Studios head Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, and Top Cow president Matt Hawkins are also attached to the project.

“Magdalena” is Top Cow’s oldest properties that hasn’t had it’s own ongoing series, though the character, which spun off from the successful Top Cow title “The Darkness”, has guest-starred in numerous Top Cow titles and had several of her own limited mini-series. The character is a defender of the Roman Catholic Church,a descendant of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene armed with supernatural weapons such as the Spear of Destiny and the power to look into evil men’s hearts and show them the errors of their ways.

“Magdalena” has a tentative release date of 2010.
