Production Weekly is reporting that Lionsgate is in development of a remake of the classic 1987 film, “Dirty Dancing”, based on a new script by Julia Dahl (”Uptown Girl”).

The original classic film starred Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey as a dancing instructor at a Catskills resort and a visiting New Yorker respectively, who fall in love and compete in a local dance competition. Made for just $6 million, the film has gone on to earn a massive $213.95 million worldwide as of 2007.
