If you’re reading this, congratulations! You’re reading the first part in a new feature on Shockya where we field your opinions about the winning movie of the weekend. And there’s really no better movie to start the feature off than with a movie who might prove to be just as divisive as it (hopefully) is entertaining.

The big winner of this weekend was the sequel to the breakout hit “The Hangover”, “The Hangover Part II”. “The Hangover Part II” ended up grossing a total of $86.5 million this three-day weekend, making it the best ever performance for a live-action comedy.

However, despite the fantastic monetary performance, many critics have been left cold by the film, saying that the film is basically a retread of the first “Hangover” aside from the obvious differences in location (whereas the first one was set in Vegas, this one is set in Bangkok, Thailand) and the groom (this time, Stu, played by Ed Helms, is the one getting married; their friend Doug, played by Justin Bartha, was the one getting married). The film has only garnered a 35% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and some scathing reviews from the likes of Richard Roeper and The Wall Street Journal’s Joe Morgenstern.

But, the film also scored a 94% with audiences, according to Rotten Tomatoes. So here’s the question: What did you think about the film? If you are one of the legions of “Hangover” fans, did it meet your expectations? If you’re new to the “Hangover” franchise, how did the movie strike you? Go crazy over arguing about “The Hangover Part II” in the comments section below.

  1. Not as good as the first flick.  It’s really just the exact same film in a different country. blah blah.

  2. I didn’t think it was that bad… little bit of a repeat, but isn’t that what we all expected?!  Worth watching. If your a fan of the first film, you’ll probably like this one.
