Seth MacFarlane revealed exclusive details about his hosting duties of the upcoming 85th Annual Academy Awards ceremony with ‘Extra’ as he was honored at Variety’s Third Annual Power of Comedy. During the event, which benefited cancer treatment and research, two years after the ‘Ted’ writer-director lost his mother to the disease, the comedian told ‘Extra‘ host Maria Menounos that preparations have already begun for the Oscars.
The ‘Family Guy’ voice actor added “We’ve started writing, we’ve started the pre-production process and it’s going to be good. The producers are great and its going to be filled with the unexpected.”
The Power of Comedy event, which was mc’ed by Joel McHale and fellow ‘Family Guy’ actor Seth Green, filled the room with laughs. Some jokes were made at MacFarlane’s expense, such as when the ‘Community’ star said the writer-director will be an awful Oscar host.
However, backstage McHale called MacFarlane “a genius and insanely funny, but what I like about him is he’s personable.” ‘The Soup’ host also said that at the Academy Awards, the ‘Ted’ star “should definitely sing and dance because he is terrific at it, and don’t pull any punches with the jokes, not that he ever would.”
Green describe his ‘Family Guy’ co-star as “hot, talented, tipsy.” As far as offering MacFarlane advice on hosting the Oscars, he said “I don’t have any advice for him, he grew up watching all the same Oscar’s as he did.”
