Breakout singer-songwriter Tristan Prettyman opened up about her critically acclaimed new album, ‘Cedar+Gold,’ and her painful breakup with singer Jason Mraz, in a new Walmart Soundcheck concert and interview. The San Diego musician performed an exclusive live set of five news songs from the album, including the hit singles ‘My Oh My’ and “I Was Gonna Marry You,’ and also discussed touring with The Script.

During the interview, Prettyman said that when she started writing ‘Cedar+Gold,’ “I thought, ‘This is definitely going in towards a breakup album.’ As I began to finish the record, the more I could see that the journey of the record really started after I stopped touring on the last album. I got really burned out on music.” She added that she wanted to take some time for herself, to travel, and “to kind of find my anchor again.”

The title ‘Cedar+Gold’ refers to the cedar walls and ceilings of Prettyman’s childhood home, where she still lives now. She also said the inspiration for the album came after she “got back together with an ex-byfriend, got engaged, unengaged-and music was the first place I ran to. Most of these songs were written in the moment right after a fight, right after a conversation, right after getting a voicemail.”
