Rob Marshall Claiming Pirates of the Caribbean 5 Being Rewritten

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ director Rob Marshall is claiming that the follow-up to the film, one of 2011′s most financially successful, is being rewritten, Slashfilm is reporting. The news comes after the franchise’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, called for rewrites on the fifth film, when ‘On Stranger Tides’ received poor critical reviews. While the fourth sequel in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ series was completed even before ‘On Stranger Tides’ hit theaters in May, Bruckheimer said he felt the script wasn’t good enough. Marshall offered an update on the fifth ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ film, saying Terry Rossio is writing the script. “He’s working incredibly hard and he…

Can you feel the chill in the air? Winter’s coming! Okay, so many of you likely don’t live in the northeast and this is the Movie News Cheat Sheet, so there’s little room for TV references here, but fall is right around the corner! Even with Oscar season approaching, our Academy Awards potentials aren’t getting much love at the box office. Johnny Depp reveals a unique idea hatched for Pirates 5 and 6

Friday, May 6th, 2011

Movieline has reported on a “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” press conference in which Johnny Depp and producer Jerry Bruckheimer talk more about the film. Depp also reveals an interesting idea that may or may not show up in the later “Pirates” installments. “There’s a very clever idea that’s being hatched in terms of ‘Pirates 5′ and ’6′,” he said in a joking tone. “We’re actually shooting them on the ['Pirates of the Caribbean'] ride…Just moving in circles, nonstop. Kinda like Andy Warhol’s ‘Sleep’–just close-ups on everyone. Of course, it’s logical to assume this is just a joke, But wouldn’t be hilarious if someone actually went through with…

Jon Turteltaub Eyeing a Christmas 2011 Release For National Treasure 3

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Despite my lack of enthusiasm, I’ve got to give it to Jon Turteltaub; making a third National Treasure makes sense. Neither the original nor Book of Treasure faired well with the critics, yet both went on to pull in massive hauls at the box office. Combined, the film earned over $800 million worldwide. So now it’s really no surprise that Turteltaub is moving forward with National Treasure 3 and rather soon at that. While at the premiere of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, from which he recently plucked NT 3′s new writers, Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro, the director told Coming Soon, “I think we start shooting late…

Justin Haythe Set to Write The Lone Ranger

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Production for Walt Disney Pictures’ ‘The Lone Ranger’ is officially moving forward. Heat Vision confirmed on February 12 that ‘Revolutionary Road’ writer Justin Haythe is set to work on the script, replacing ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Haythe is able to work on the script because his last writing job with the studio, ’20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo,’ fell apart during the recent executive turnover. Jerry Bruckheimer is set to produce ‘The Lone Ranger,’ with Johnny Depp and George Clooney rumored to star in the main roles. The story will follow the Lone Ranger’s (presumably played by Clooney)…

Justine Haythe Writing The Lone Ranger

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

Justin Haythe (“Revolutionary Road”) is in negotiations to write the script for the Walt Disney adaptation of the classic character “The Lone Ranger.” Jerry Bruckheimer is producing, and Johnny Depp is attached as the Ranger’s sidekick, the Indian Tonto. Haythe would be replacing “Pirates of the Caribbean” scribes Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, who have previously tackled adapting the story. The Lone Ranger was once a Texas Ranger whose group of Rangers were pursuing a gang of outlaws who abushed the Rangers, leaving them all for dead. The Indian scout Tonto found the Ranger, the lone survivor, and helped him recover. The Ranger then dons a black mask and tames…
