Writer Sues Machete Directors For Stealing Her Ideas

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

Writer-actress Yvonne Delarose is suing the directors of ‘Machete,’ Robert Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis, for stealing her ideas for the action-revenge film, TMZ is reporting. Delarose filed the lawsuit in L.A. County Superior Court, claiming Maniquis solicited her for ideas in 2005 for a movie about a man who goes on a killing spree with a machete. The lawsuit also states the directors used her ideas without paying her. Delarose is suing the two filmmakers for break of contract, and is seeking unspecified damages. She said she shared her characters and storylines, thinking she’d be compensate, but never was. When ‘Machete’ was released in 2010, the writer said it contained…

The Town Wins The Weekend With $23.8 Million

Monday, September 20th, 2010

Ben Affleck is this weekend’s big winner. Not only did his new film The Town win big with critics, but it was a smash hit at the box office as well. It took in $23.8 million, which is above and beyond the opening weekend earnings of Affleck’s last directorial effort, Gone Baby Gone, which only accumulated $5.5 million. Of course The Town hit far more theaters than Gone Baby Gone, but comparing Gone Baby Gone’s $3,211 per theater haul to The Town’s $8,319, it’s quite clear that this is a hugely successful production for Affleck. It will earn back its $37 million production budget with ease. Easy A may not…

Resident Evil Afterlife

Resident Evil: Afterlife Takes The Top Spot At The Box Office With Ease

Sunday, September 12th, 2010

With zero wide release competition in its way, it was obvious Resident Evil: Afterlife would take the top spot at the box office. But not only did Afterlife easily secure the #1 position, it also brought the Resident Evil franchise its biggest opening ever. The opening weekend haul has improved from film to film, the first taking in $17.7 million, Apocalypse earning $23 million, Extinction with $23.7 million and now Afterlife with $27.7 million. Milla Jovovich is likely a very happy lady because not only is this a franchise high, but a personal opening weekend best, too. Afterlife easily surpassed its $60 million budget earning $73.2 million worldwide. Screen Gems…

Labor Day Weekend Box Office Honors Go To The American

Monday, September 6th, 2010

The American may have snagged the #1 spot at the box office, but it’s not really a top honor this Labor Day weekend. It looks as though folks didn’t use their extra day off to head to the theater because The American only managed to bank $13.1 million. Tack on the film’s $3.1 million three-day head start and its $3.3 million holiday intake and that brings it to a total of $19.5 million, just short of its $20 million budget. Taking the #2 spot is newcomer Machete with a $14 million four-day opening weekend. Following close behind is last week’s top earner, Takers, which added another $13.5 million to its…
