THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN

The Adventures of Tintin Movie Review

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

Title: The Adventures of Tintin Director: Steven Spielberg Starring: Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, Daniel Craig, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Toby Jones, Cary Elwes If it was all about looks, “The Adventures of Tintin” could contend for best picture of the year. The motion-capture animation is exquisite. From the epic-level action sequences, to the inquisitive chatter moments, the eyes will be treated to continuous pleasure in this 107 minute feature directed by Steven Spielberg. Having Spielberg’s talents is usually enough, but audiences will also get a sizable helping of Peter Jackson’s Weta Digital CG, along with charismatic cinematography by Janusz Kaminisky. Oh, and the music score by the great John Williams…

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy Movie Review

Sunday, December 4th, 2011

Title: Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy Directed By: Tomas Alfredson Starring: Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, John Hurt, Toby Jones, Mark Strong, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ciarán Hinds, David Dencik If critics rave about a film, there will still certainly be some folks who aren’t into it and the same goes for a movie that gets panned; every movie out there is going to appeal to some, even if it’s a very select few. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is a rather frustrating film to review as it’s a piece of immense quality, boasting impeccable performances, a strong sense of tone and a stellar score, but, in the end, there’s just no denying…

My Week With Marilyn

NYFF 2011 Movie Review: My Week With Marilyn

Monday, October 10th, 2011

Title: My Week With Marilyn Director: Simon Curtis Cast: Michelle Williams, Kenneth Branagh, Eddie Redmayne, Emma Watson, Julia Ormond, Toby Jones, Dominic Cooper and Judi Dench Being in awe of celebrity is reason enough to write about that experience, especially if it was a personal and long-lasting experience. This is not a new theme explored by Hollywood. The latest one that comes to mind was Richard Linklater’s “Me and Orson Welles,” this experience gains a bit of insight to celebrity, catching the figure in an honest light. In the new film from Simon Curtis, “My Week With Marilyn” explores intimate moments between the author of the source material, Colin Clark…

The Adventures of Tintin Official Poster Released

Saturday, August 6th, 2011

CinemaBlend has the official poster for “The Adventures of Tintin,” starring Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, Daniel Craig, Nick Frost, Simon Pegg, Toby Jones, Mackenzie Crook, Daniel Mays and Gad Elmaleh. The poster looks conventional, and I do have to agree with the site with CinemaBlend’s Katey Rich when she writes that the poster suffers from “Floating Head Syndrome”. I know what the poster was going for–those vintage-type collage posters–but something’s a little off. Maybe there’s too much fade-away around the neck areas of the main characters. I also have to agree that the teaser poster produced so much more of a punch than this official poster. However, We do get…

Captain America: The First Avenger Movie Review

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Title: Captain America: The First Avenger Directed By: Joe Johnston Starring: Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Dominic Cooper, Stanley Tucci, Toby Jones, Neal McDonough So far, so good for The Avengers this summer. Thor’s a pretty cool guy and now it’s Captain America to show off what he’s got. Sure, he comes with the superhero standards – buff body, noble intentions and a sleek costume – but other than that, he’s nothing more than a poster boy for Marvel movies. Steve Rogers makes for a better propaganda symbol than superhero. Chris Evans is Steve Rogers, a Brooklyn native desperate to serve his country. Sadly,…
