Variety is reporting that Columbia Pictures is in talks with Nicolas Cage and Cameron Diaz for the two to join the cast of “The Green Hornet” as a gangster villain and a potential love interest, respectively. The film, which is being directed by Michel Gondry, stars Seth Rogen as the masked crime fighter clad in a green trench coat wielding a gas gun.
The picture is aiming for a fall start date even though a replacement is being sought for Stephen Chow, who was going to play the Hornet’s kung-fu sidekick and chauffer Kato.
Evan Goldberg wrote the script alongside Rogen, and Neal Moritz is producing through Original Films. “The Green Hornet” has a tentative release date set for July 9th, 2010.
