The official synopsis of Thor has arrived and it’s pretty much exactly what you’d expect. But, hey, it’s always nice to get some studio certified information, right? Check out what Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment have to offer:

Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment present the epic adventure, Thor, which spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth), a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth by his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and is forced to live among humans. A beautiful, young scientist, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), has a profound effect on Thor, as she ultimately becomes his first love. It’s while here on Earth that Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

The superhero flick has a massive cast including Hemsworth, Hopkins and Portman as well as Tom Hiddleston, Rene Russo, Stellan Skarsgard, Jaimie Alexander, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson and Idris Elba. But, of course, the man to watch is Hemsworth not only because he’ll be the titular character, but because has the most potential to grow into a serious Hollywood powerhouse. Few even knew his name before his minimal yet profound performance in last summer’s Star Trek, but now it seems as though we’ll get to know him quite well with a hefty list of upcoming projects. The first out of the gate for those films will be the thriller Ca$h with a limited release on March 26th followed by a wider one on April 9th. We’ll have to wait until May 6th, 2011 for Thor.

  1. I am eager to see where they go with the character as Thor has the potential to be one of the most visual and epic transition from comic book page to the silver screen of any of Marvel’s finest. If they can capture the glory of Jack Kirby’s visual genius, and the epic sweep of Stan Lee’s lyracal texts, it could potentially be a blockbuster, to say nothing of sparking a new chapter of Marvel adaptations. It all depends on if they can deliver the goods as the challenge of Asgard is to present a world of glory unequaled.

    Jim.
