Would you believe that a show about magicians fighting Nazis is getting made? No? Well, believe it, because it’s really happening.

According to Entertainment Weekly, HBO is green-lighting the production of a show being titled “Hobgoblin” that’s about a group of magicians and con men who battle Hitler during World War II. The show, which still in the early development stages, is being made by writers and husband-and-wife team Michael Chabon (“Wonder Boys”, “Spider-Man 2”) and Ayelet Waldman (“Bad Mother”, “The Other Woman”). John Lesher and Adam Kassan have reportedly signed up to produce the show along with Chabon and Waldman, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Nothing more has been said about the show, but at the very least, the idea and title sound grabbing enough that it should bring in a sizable crowd. I mean, who doesn’t want to see what magicians fighting the Third Reich would look like?  And while this sounds like an “Inglorious Basterds” history rewrite, EW did turn up a Wiki page that states a British stage magician, Jasper Maskelyne, did, in fact, help the Allied Forces during the war.

What do you think about the idea? Will you tune in to HBO in the near future to see magicians attempt to outwit Hitler?
