The spring preview of the new Steven Spielberg-produced FOX series ‘Terra Nova’ has been canceled, www.tvguide.com is reporting. The network has confirmed that it won’t air the first episode of the sci-fi drama on May 23, which was intended to be a preview of its upcoming first season. The news comes even after Fox successfully launched its hit musical series ‘Glee’ in May 2009 with a sneak preview before it officially premiered the following fall.

Kevin Reilly, FOX’s President of Entertainment, said the network needs more time to perfect ‘Terra Novas’ visual effects before it premieres. He added that the show, which is set in pre-historic times, is “one of the most ambitious television series ever produced…(The visual effects are) essential, so we are pushing back the special early preview date to give the visual effect time the time needed for their ground-breaking work.”

The show stars Jason O’Mara as the father of a family who travel through time to escape Earth’s overpopulation, and they land in pre-historic times. Time travel is nothing new to the actor, whose last series, ABC’s ‘Life On Mars,’ followed his character, NYPD officer Sam Tyler, as he traveled back in time to 1973.
