Former ‘Smallville’ star Kristin Kreuk is defending herself after the show’s fans criticized her for saying she doesn’t think her character, Lana Lang, should return for the show’s upcoming series finale, www.tvline.com is reporting. Kreuk said that she doesn’t believe “there was ever a real offer for me to come back,” even though former co-stars Michael Rosenbaum and Allison Mack are reprising their roles of Lex and Chloe.

Kreuk added that if she did want to return for the finale, ‘Smallville’s showrunners Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson “would find a way to fit me in.”  However, the actress added that she doesn’t think she should return just because the series is ending. “The show has changed so much, it would be weird for (Lana) to come back,” she previously told TVLine last year.

Kreuk also said that she felt her seven season run ended well when she left in 2008. “I liked that she gained inner strength and…had the courage to walk away from Clark.” She also said that Lana did the best she could for humanity, even though she loved Clark. Kruek added that Clark has moved forward, and isn’t sure how Lana’s return would change his story.
