A while ago, Shockya reported that a biopic about mafia crime boss John Gotti was in the works. Today, news has been released that John Travolta, one of the people on the shortlist to play a Gotti, has been cast as Gotti’s son, John Gotti, Jr in the biopic “Gotti: Three Generations”.

According to Variety, Travolta has been a name loosely connected to the film for months, having been one of the actors being considered to star.

The film will be told from Gotti, Jr.’s viewpoint of his father’s rise to power throughout the twentieth century.

John Gotti was the head of the Gambino crime family, who, in 2002, died in prison due to cancer. His son became part of the organized crime organization in 1988, even though, according to the article, Gotti, Jr.’s mother tried to protect him and his siblings from a life of crime.

The film is expected to be directed by Nick Cassavettes; the script is written by writer-actor Leo Rossi. Since it’s still in the early stages of development, no concrete release date has been set, but the film is expected to be in theaters in 2013.

Are you excited to see this film? What do you think of the casting thus far?
