Here’s some news to report–Vanilla Ice is going to be in a movie!

According to NY Magazine’s Vulture, Vanilla Ice–born Robert Matthew Van Winkle–, along with Leighton Meester, are set to play roles in Adam Sandler’s next comedy, “I Hate You Dad”. The film will be about a son (Andy Samberg) who is clashing with his dad (Sandler, who’s barely old enough to play Samberg’s dad) about said son’s upcoming wedding. Meester is playing Samberg’s fiancee, while Vanilla Ice will play–wait for it–a gay wedding coordinator from Long Island. You know how this role will be played; it’ll be played for laughs.

It’s probably dangerous to say something like that about role in a movie that hasn’t even gone into production yet. But after covering the movie industry for a long time, trends begin to arise, one of them being that gay roles are typically stereotypically played for laughs. Lest we forget the whole “Dilemma” debacle over the usage of the word “gay”. Or the whole issue over portraying gay relationships as hilarious in “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry”. Or every movie in which there is a sassy gay best friend. All I’m saying is that if you’re easily offended or annoyed, be prepared to be offended or annoyed once more.

So what do you think about this news? Are you oddly curious to see Vanilla Ice in a film? What do you think about his role?
