According to Broadway Worldand NY Magazine’s Vulture, Diego González Boneta has been cast as Drew in the film adaptation of “Rock of Ages”.

The largely unknown actor has starred in hit teen shows “90210” and “Pretty Little Liars”. Before acting in America, Boneta made his start on telenovelas in Mexico. He also started a music career in Mexico, first being in a boy band and later recording a single called “Perdido En Ti” (“Losing Me”), which is available in both Spanish and English.

As earlier reported, Boneta takes on the role of Drew, a up-and-coming rock singer who has to battle past-his-prime rocker Stacee Jaxx (played by Tom Cruise in the film) for the love of small-town girl Sherrie (Julianne Hough) while fighting to keep his dream of becoming a rock star alive.

Drew was originally played by Constantine Maroulis in the Broadway show the film is based on. When asked why Maroulis wasn’t cast in the film, “Rock of Ages” director Adam Shankman said he cast the film according to ages; he wanted Drew, who is supposed to be between 20 and 23 years old, to be played by someone who was actually 20 to 23. Boneta fits that bill, seeing how he’s 20 years old.

So, what do you think? Do you think Boneta will make a great Drew? Sound off below.
