A few days ago, news came out that Pixar was going to begin work on the prequel to “Monsters, Inc.”, called “Monsters University”. Now, NY Magazine’s Vulture is reporting that the film has been pushed back from its original 2012 date to 2013.

This move clears up Pixar’s plate a little; their first heroine-led film, “Brave”, is slated to come out in 2012 with “Monsters University” coming out a few months later. Now that the film has been pushed back to the following year, there should be more time to work on getting the film just so.

It’s also great because, as the article points out, Pixar fans and naysayers alike won’t be able to say Pixar put out three sequels in three years. After “Toy Story 3” in 2010 and “Cars 2” this year, if “Monsters University” came out in 2012, the growing concern about Pixar’s new penchant for sequels would start getting louder.

“Monsters University” is supposed to cover the period of time when Sully (John Goodman) and Mike (Billy Crystal) met in college. They hate each other at first, but as they get to know each other, they overcome their differences and become the best of friends. Personally, I thought the sequel would’ve been about grown-up Boo, because that’s the story I’m interested in, seeing how the daughter-father relationship between Boo and Sully was the main drive of “Monsters Inc.” Oh well.

Are you enthused about this news? What do you think about Pixar making sequels, even though they all but swore off these types of films? Do you think the story is there for “Monsters University”? Sound off below.
