Sean Hayes has been selected to portray Larry in 20th Century Fox’s upcoming ‘Three Stooges’ movie, deadline.com is reporting. The ‘Will & Grace’ star joins Will Sasso, who has been cast as Curly, but the studio has yet to fill the role of the third stooge, Moe. The slapstick comedy, which is being directed by Peter and Bobby Farrelly, is expected to begin production later this month.

The Farrellys reportedly cast Hayes for his physical comedy acting, and for channeling the characteristics that made Larry famous in the television show during his audition. While some fans of the show haven’t given the movie their full support, especially with the expected PG rating, the Farrellys are determined to make the film a success after putting 12 years into the project.

‘The Three Stooges’ is expected to have a $30 million budget, and is inspired by original show shorts. The movie will follow the trio as they’re left as newborns outside an orphanage, and will follow them into adulthood. The film is expected to be divided into three half-hour shorts.

  1. Great news. Some actors are endlessly watchable, like De Niro or Simon Callow (English actor), no matter what the role is. Sean Hayes is one of those; a delight.
