Kevin Costner has been cast as “Devil” Anse Hatfield in the History Channel’s upcoming mini-series ‘The Hatfields and McCoys,’ Deadline is reporting. The Oscar winner will also produce the series, which is scheduled to premiere next year to mark the 150th anniversary of the war between the two families.

‘The Hartfields and McCoys,’ which was written by Ted Mann, will follow Hatfields’ friendship with Randall McCoy during the American Civil War. However, when they return home from the war, tensions, misunderstandings and resentments arise, which all lead to the major fight. Friends and neighbors are dragged into the fight, almost bringing Hatfields’ home state of West Virginia and McCoy’s home state of Kentucky to another Civil War.

‘The Hartfields and McCoys’ will be The History Channel’s second scripted mini-series, following this year’s ‘The Kennedys.’ However, the channel made news after it dropped the later series just before it was set to be released.
