‘Grey’s Anatomy’ alum T.R. Knight has signed on to guest-star on an upcoming episode of ‘Law & Order: SVU,’ TVGuide is reporting. He will portray a suspected serial rapist who adamantly maintains his innocence, despite the overwhelming evidence against him. His episode is currently in production, and NBC has yet to schedule an airdate.

The ‘Law & Order: SVU’ stint will be Knight’s first return to television since leaving ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ in 2009. The actor appeared as Dr. George O’Malley for five seasons on the hit medical drama, for which he earned an Emmy nomination in 2007. Knight asked to leave the show at the end of the fifth season, which resulted in his character being killed off.

Since leaving ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ Knight starred in the musical ‘Parade’ in Los Angeles. He also appeared in the 2010 Broadway revival of David Mamet’s ‘A Life in the Theatre.’
