Buzz has been following the R-rated comedy about cancer, “50/50.” The main cast of the film, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen, along with screenwriter Will Reiser, have taken part in a chat video about the film.

In the video, Rogen and Reiser talk about their real-life friendship and Reiser’s real battle with cancer, both of which are the basis for the film and its plot. In the video, they talk about how they used humor in order to make an already tough time less strenuous.

“We worked with Will on ‘Da Ali G’ show, and it was shortly after that we learned he was sick,” said Rogen. “As shocking, sad, confusing and generally screwed up as it was; we couldn’t ignore that because we were so ill-equipped to deal with the situation, funny things kept happening. Will got better, and when he did, we thought the best way to pull somthing good out of the situation was to get him to write a screenplay. Ideally we wanted to make a film that would be funny, sad, and hopefully as honest as the experience we went through. As soon as the script was completed, it quickly became a passion project for all of us. It helped us come to terms with Will’s struggle as well as our own experiences.”

The video is a part of a “50/50” collaboration with Levitt’s company hitRECord. In Levitt’s note, which you can read here, he wrote that fans of the film who want to contribute to the collaboration can write, draw, or record your tragic/comedic story and submit it to hitRECord. Some of the stories will be adapted into short films.

In the film, Levitt and Rogen star as best friends who have to deal with a cancer diagnosis. The film also stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Anna Kendrick and Anjelica Huston. You can learn more about the film at the official website.

Below is the video as well as a clip called “Coffee Shop” and the film’s second trailer.
