After months of speculation and wondering, the red band trailer for “21 Jump Street” has finally been released! The trailer was put on the film’s official Facebookpage, and, having seen at least one episode of the original “21 Jump Street,” I think it’s fair to say that there’s a very big difference in tone from the show, which made Johnny Depp a household name.

The film stars Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill as doofus cops who look young enough to pass for high schoolers, so they’re enrolled in an revived undercover cop unit:

“In the action-comedy 21 Jump Street, Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) are more than ready to leave their adolescent problems behind. Joining the police force and the secret Jump Street unit, they use their youthful appearances to go undercover in a local high school. As they trade in their guns and badges for backpacks, Schmidt and Jenko risk their lives to investigate a violent and dangerous drug ring. But they find that high school is nothing like they left it just a few years earlier – and neither expects that they will have to confront the terror and anxiety of being a teenager again and all the issues they thought they had left behind.”

The trailer has an emphasis much more on the buddy-cop humor than the “serious” tone the original show had. The film also stars Brie Larson, Dave Franco, Rob Riggle and Ice Cube. Also, there’s going to be a cameo by Depp himself in the film, so if you don’t go for any other reason, go to see Depp giving back to the show that made him a star.
