“The Amazing Spider-Man” is looking like a better film the more I read about it, and this news from Slash Film is just another piece to add to this good-looking puzzle.

According to the site, the Japanese press conference for the Marc Webb-directed film revealed a lot of juicy tidbits about the film’s plot and character relationships.

At the conference, Avi Arad, one of the producers for the film, said that there are major differences between this film and the trilogy by “Spider-Man” superfan director Sam Raimi.

“In our movie, [Peter] finds his true love,” he said. “Gwen Stacy was always the true love of Peter Parker…We found a very, very good story about what makes him a human being. About what sets their destiny.”

Andrew Garfield also talked about the film, generally about the action scenes. He said a lot of the scenes are “practical and grounded in reality.” He also said that Peter’s newly-affected DNA affects how he moves and interacts with things, such as his sense of space and skin sensitivity.

You can go to Slash Film to read more about the press conference (as well as watch the conference itself). I know a lot of fans might be mad that Mary Jane isn’t the love interest, since she has always been known as being Peter’s one true love, but Gwen Stacy was, at one point, that love of his life, and I’m glad that the film is switching it up a bit and going with a fresher route. To me, the Mary Jane route is played out now.
