The Guardian asks the question that so many media outlets are asking–can “The Dark Knight Rises” stand up to the gauntlet that “The Avengers” and “The Amazing Spider-Man” will bring?

You can click here to read what the Guardian has to say about the chances “The Dark Knight Rises” has at the box office, but personally, I think the film will slay all others at the box office.

The article at the Guardian talks about the roles Catwoman’s interpretation, Bane’s voice, etc. could play in how well the film will do, but honestly, Christopher Nolan’s “Batman” universe will not be in any type of threat from “The Amazing Spider-Man” or even “The Avengers.”

I’m not saying that the films will be bad or that the films won’t be blockbusters in their own right, but if we’re looking at franchises in a whole, the current “Batman” franchise is virtually blemish-free as far as storytelling, acting and visual effects go. The other two have some ways to go–Marvel’s films have only been okay, with “Iron Man” being the best one, and even though Spider-Man is a part of the Marvel Universe, his series is owned by another studio–Sony Pictures–and is just now getting rebooted; the first “Spider-Man” series went down in quality each time, with the culminating death knell being “Spider-Man 3” and “The Amazing Spider-Man” now has a lot of ground to make up.

I would think that if any movie’s in a better position to be second to “Rises,” it would be “Spider-Man” because it’s basically in the same position as “Batman Begins” was a few years ago; both films’s aims were and are to reinvigorate and redeem ailing franchises. “Begins” did it with flying colors, and if “Spider-Man” can make people forget about “Spider-Man 3” just like “Begins” made a lot of people forget about Joel Schumacher’s “Batman” films, then I feel “Spider-Man” will have a lot more long-term success than “Avengers.

However, this is just one person’s opinion; what do you think? Give your opinions in the comments section below.
