It’s springtime, and for many people in the country, that means it’s also wedding time! Since spring is the biggest season for weddings, ShockYa is celebrating the season of love with our list of the our top 10 wedding films.

1. “Father of the Bride” (1950, 1991): Both versions of this story about a father who has to deal with the conflicting emotions of his daughter getting married and the bills that come with it are delightful and humorous. While we all feel for the father’s turmoil (Spencer Tracy in the 1950 version, Steve Martin in the 1991 version), we also understand that all of that pain and heartache is worth it in order to see his girl happy.

2. “The Princess Bride” (1987): “The Princess Bride,” starring Cary Elwes as Westley and Robin Wright as Princess Buttercup, is a classic romance/adventure tale, including humor, sword fights, true love, and, much to a young Fred Savage’s dismay, kissing.

3. “Four Weddings and a Funeral” (1994): This is one of the films that put Hugh Grant on the map as an American movie star. This rom-com, also starring Andie McDowell, follows a man who thinks he may have found the woman he is going to marry as he goes to, as the title states, four weddings and one funeral.

4. “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” (2002): This indie film became a box-office smash in 2002, putting Nia Vardalos on the map as the newest rom-com it girl. The film follows her character Toula who is set to marry a non-Greek man. Her family has to come to terms with her fiance while she comes to terms about her place in her Greek heritage.

5. “The Wedding Singer” (1998): Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore star in this fun comedy set in the 1980s about a wedding singer who discovers that the love of his life is actually his friend. Also, Billy Idol makes a guest appearance.

6. “My Best Friend’s Wedding” (1997): Julia Roberts, Dermot Mulroney and Cameron Diaz star in this film, which shows a woman who realizes that she’s in love with her best friend once he divulges to her that he’s getting married.

7. “Wedding Crashers” (2005): Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson star as two buddies who crash weddings simply to get it on with the women guests. All plans come to a halt when John (Wilson) falls in love with a woman named Claire (Rachel McAdams).

8. “Bride and Prejudice” (2004): This Bollywood-style film starring former Miss World Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Martin Henderson is a fun retelling of Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice.” The film begins and ends with fun wedding celebrations, setting the tone for the film.

9. “The Princess and the Frog” (2009): Anika Noni Rose and Bruno Campos lend their voices to Tiana and Prince Naveen, respectively. The two get turned into frogs by voodoo master Dr. Facilier (Keith David) and during their journey to become themselves again, they fall in love. Most people probably wouldn’t pick a swamp as their first inspiration for a wedding, but I bet there are tons of people who are trying to recreate a “Princess and the Frog”-style wedding after seeing the beautiful wedding dress Tiana gets to wear.

10. “Cinderella” (1950): The 1950 classic stars the voices of Ilene Woods as Cinderella, a woman who is abused by her stepmother and stepsisters. She is able to reap the rewards of life when she is able to go to the royal ball thanks to her Fairy Godmother and fall in love with the prince. The wedding scene at the end of the film is great because not only did it launch the dreams of young girls across the country, but it also made you feel great to see Cinderella finally get the treatment she deserves.

With all top 10 lists, you end up leaving out some films, like “Bride Wars,” so which film–listed or not–is your favorite wedding film? Give your opinions in the comments section below.
