The North American rights to the acclaimed Southern Goth thriller, ‘Holy Ghost People,’ have been acquired by XLrator Media, following the movie’s world premiere last month at South by Southwest. The film, which was helmed by Mitchell Altieri, one half of the Butcher Brothers directing duo, was written by Kevin Artigue, Joe Egender, Altieri and Phil Flores, the other half of the Butcher Brothers.
XLrator Media CEO Barry Gordon announced ‘Holy Ghost People’s acquisition by the multi-platform releasing company. “Following our great experience working with the Butcher Brothers on the vampire epic ‘The Thompsons,’ we’re thrilled to be releasing Mitchell’s extraordinary new film which created such a sensation at SXSW,” Gordon said.
‘Holy Ghost People’ follows 19-year-old Charlotte (Emma Greenwell) as she enlists the help of an alcoholic ex-Marine, Wayne (Brendan McCarthy), as she searches for her estranged sister, who has gone missing in the Appalachian Mountains. Their search leads them to the Church of One Accord and the snake-handling preacher Brother Billy (Joe Egender), who’s devoted congregation of outcasts knowingl risk injury or death as they seek salvation in the Holy Ghost. During their time in the mountains, Charlotte and Wayne uncover secrets not only about themselves, but also of the nature of faith, which will shake tem to their core. The mystery of Charlotte’s sister and her fate begin to unravel.
